Jul 01, 2016 Made in Canada Ironically enough, I have never been one to embrace the rituals of commercialism that each calendar year brings but in the spirit of Canada Day, my first one away from the Byward Market in the last 10 years, this photo I recently shot, touched me on a deeper level.I am mindful of how lucky we are to live here, where the maple leaf is a symbol of opportunity, peace, community and compassion. To say the least, a place where Made in Canada has some value and instills confidence in quality and workmanship. A place where you can create something and make a living at it. A place where gender does not preclude you from opportunities. A place where the Shop Local movement encourages us to give back to our communities to build strong foundations for our future and our kids. A place where @Shopify, a locally based home grown e-commerce platform, continues to open doors for entrepreneurs not only in Canada but worldwide.Along with all the red and white streaming through the city, the St. Albert cheese curds, the maple syrup and Beavertails, today we take a moment to celebrate the everyday gifts and opportunities that abound here in this country. I am not only proud, but very grateful to be Canadian!
